Nokia naming conventions

Nokia Conversations explains the naming conventions for Nokia Phones. The N series remains, which will have the flagship handsets, the X series will have devices that focus on social entertainment, the E series will continue to have devices for business and productivity and the C series represents the core range of devices. Nokia C5 Unveiled

Nokia unveiled the Nokia C5 handset today, as part of the new C series of handsets. The C5 is a S60 V3 phone with a 2.2″ QVGA screen, 3.2 MP Autofocus camera, HSDPA and A-GPS. It comes preloaded with the latest Ovi Maps, that includes free walk and drive navigation, and Nokia Messaging built it. What sets the C5 apart, is that it’s a Social Networking centric device. Nokia Music to become Ovi Music

Just got this in the email today from Nokia Music. In the next week or so, Nokia Music India’s going to be part of Ovi Music. The good news about this move is that all the tracks you download will be DRM-free. This means that the tracks you download can be played on any device, not just Nokia phones. Skype for Symbian – Short Review

Skype announced yesterday that a beta version of their mobile application was available for most Symbian phones, including the v5 phones. I tried it out, for a short while and here is an initial review. It’s a quick download from the mobile Skype site (actually it is around 5 mb). N900 firmware update PR 1.1.1

Nokia has just released their latest firmware update for the Nokia N900. The new firmware version is v3.2010.02-8 (PR 1.1.1). You can get this through OTA updates and the download weighs in around 16MB. Apart from a few bug-fixes there are new features in this release. Symbian goes Open Source!

Everyone expected Symbian to go completely Open source sometime during the second quarter this year, so seeing the countdown on the Symbian site was a bit confusing. The announcement came 4 months ahead of schedule, less than 20 months from the time of the initial announcement, the main objective being creating a mature and diverse open source community. Symbian seems to be in a rather giving mood... 

Ovi Maps – 1.4 Million Downloads!

It was only on the 21st of January this year that Nokia announced that Navigation for Ovi maps  was going to be free for all its GPS enabled phones. Within a week of the announcement Nokia announced  that the Ovi maps had been downloaded 1 million times, and now the figure is up to 1.4 million! Also, starting next month all new Nokia GPS-enabled smartphones will include the new version of Maps, pre-loaded... 

More on Nokia’s Mobile Radar

There are some cool uses for Nokia’s Mobile Radar which can be incorporated in a mobile device, which they demoed recently. They showed an actual working radar on a modified version a N95 handset.
